How I Use Design To Solve Real-Life Problems.
I intend to be more consistent in how I write to you, a letter every Monday and if I can, at a particular time. This is the first letter I'd be sending this month.
"Good design is really about solving problems"
Being a designer has not only affected how I work but how I live too.
I've come to approach problems from a design thinking perspective; this is how I work on projects; I identify the problem and provide a solution. In a subsequent letter, I will share my design process; process, and the flow from start to finish when I take on projects.
Solving problems without knowing all the answers
Design thinking is a problem-solving technique that combines logical intuition and systematic wisdom to develop long-term solutions.
I Visualize my Problems
Many of my day-to-day problems are usually how to do more in less time, and how do I make sure I have time for everything important to me. You can call it how to always have time.
Reverse Thinking
By reversing my thinking I get to see problems in a new light and decide what to prioritize. Instead of asking how do I always have time? How do I achieve more with less time? I reverse my thinking to ask, how to be short of time and inefficient? The answer would be, to not automate my tasks, to do things I can outsource myself, to not set priorities, and just to go with the flow.
Challenge Common Assumptions
Time, they say "waits for no man". This can box anyone into thinking time is always against them and make you end up in a cat and rat race with time; always on the move and not allowing a break.
, I like to believe that I'm in charge of my time, that I can set priorities, and make time for the essential things that matter to me.
Embrace Risks and Failure
Designers are masters of innovative thinking for one major reason; they're comfortable with risks and failure. Every day I embrace the possibility of failure, this helps me create a long-lasting solution.
As you can see, design thinking is mainly a problem-solving approach anyone can use for any problem. It will help you come up with a groundbreaking solution.
Give it a try when the next problem comes your way.
